At the iconic Olympia “Maria Callas” Theater, the musical performance Yannis Ritsos’s musical performance “Sonata of the Moonlight.”
“The Moonlight Sonata,” the stage monologue by our great poet Yannis Ritsos, written in 1956, marks a new era for the poet himself, as it is the first of his long compositions in “Fourth Dimension,” as well as for poetry in general.
Composer Thodoris Lembesis presents, in a new form of theatrical analogy, Yannis Ritsos’s deeply erotic and lyrical text about the woman in “black,” striving, through music, to make the audience a participant in the “moments” of the text.
The composer combined words with music, highlighting all that the poet—in a staged monologue, in a profound “confession”— in a blend of life, hope, and anticipation.
Actress Panagiota Vlanti narrating the text, and the chamber orchestra, featuring two soloists—Christos Zerbinos on the accordion and Dimitris Koufogiorgos on the classical guitar— perform the musical passages of the work.
