at the Apothiki Theater
COMPLETED
The play*In the Countryside*by British playwright Martin Crimp, directed by Aikaterini Papageorgiou, has been running since October at the Apothiki Theater, starring: Michalis Valasoglou, Kitty Paitazoglou, and Maria Kyrozi.
The play brings to the stage an enigmatic atmosphere of mystery, in which a family’s country home is transformed into a place of instability and unpredictable twists. A sudden intrusion sets off a chain of revelations that lay bare relationships, fears, and unspoken tensions.
With Crimp’s characteristic, suggestive language—darkly poetic, often distorted by humor and menace, and intensely Pinteresque— the play creates a universe where the everyday meets the existential. Reality seems to slip away, identities seem to dissolve, and the familiar takes on a disturbing, almost alien quality. The bodies express what words hint at but are unable to articulate.
The play boldly treads the fine line between order and chaos, love and threat, intimacy and upheaval. “In the Countryside” does not merely describe a family crisis; it makes it the central setting of an existential game devoid of certainties.
