at the Piraeus Municipal Theater
Final Performance: Sunday, March 16, 2025
The Piraeus Municipal Theater, in collaboration with the Athenian Theaters, presents, in its first nationwide performance, Glykeria Basdeki’s latest play, “HOW SOON IS NOW,” loosely inspired by the literary figure of Margarita Perdikari, a young teacher of middle-class background, whose enrollment in the Pindos branch of EPON during World War II will serve as the catalyst for unleashing the storm of an entire country, one that struggles to come to terms with the “ghosts” of its past.
By exploring the theme of Greek identity, the play seeks to spark a bold dialogue about the tragedy of the German occupation—a tragedy that seems to be coming to an end, but soon new calamities will begin: the civil war.
Through the language of shadow theater, Attika, Greek coffeehouses, and domestic painting, an attempt is made to construct a “national mosaic” of memory, for all those things that, in the aftermath of post-civil war Greece, people are trying to forget.
