at the Piraeus Municipal Theater
The renowned pianist and composer Stefanos Korkolis brings us closer to the magnificent symphonic works of Mikis Theodorakis with a recital featuring works by the great Greek composer, for piano and voice, at the Piraeus Municipal Theater on Monday, March 17, and Tuesday, March 18. The songs will be performed by the charismatic Sofia Manousaki.
The concert will feature classical piano works, arrangements and transcriptions of orchestral works for piano, as well as a selection of songs included on the gold CD titled “Synantisi.” The concert will also feature new renditions of songs by Mikis Theodorakis from the period 1980–2000, which were recorded for the first time in Greece!
Stefanos Korkolis’s interpretation of Mikis Theodorakis’s masterpiece is presented in the most unpretentious and human way, through a piano and a voice, with the aim of highlighting the grandeur of the melodies composed by the great Greek composer. This also marks the beginning of their deep friendship.
The relationship that developed between Mikis Theodorakis and Stefanos Korkolis began with mutual respect and a shared love of music. The pivotal phrase in the composer’s letter to the internationally renowned pianist, in which he refers to Stefanos Korkolis as “the ideal interpreter and ambassador of his music to Greek and international audiences,” as well as his praise for the very young performer of his works, Sofia Manousaki, as a “mega-ton revelation,” sealed the subsequent success.
The concert at the Piraeus Municipal Theater is dedicated to the immense legacy of Mikis Theodorakis and promises an evening of emotion, awe, and pride in him and his works!
