at the Piraeus Municipal Theater

The Piraeus Municipal Theater, in collaboration with the Athenian Theaters, presents the award-winning play by Antonis and Konstantinos Koufalas,“Don’t Dig in the Sand,” directed by the young and promising Theodosis Skarvelis, featuring a cast of talented actors (in alphabetical order): Anastasia Rafaela Konidi, Dimitris Mandrinos, Spyros Maragoudakis, and Korinna Dullart.

The play“Don’t Dig in the Sand”is being staged for the first time and will premiere on Thursday, April 24, at the Omega Stage of the Piraeus Municipal Theater.

The case:

Four heroes (not exactly young, but not exactly old either) meet at one of their homes. There, a game of deception and revenge will unfold, forcing each of them to confront their own moral code, the things they wanted to do but didn’t, and the words they spoke even though they didn’t mean them.

A cat and a canary that aren’t there (anymore), as if they were still at home.

Sozos, Thalia, Fanis, and Ada.

Four young, “insignificant” yet essentially human beings, with a bleak and faded fate, search for their identity without burying their heads in the sand.

What brought them into this house? What connects them, and what pits them against each other? A person, a crime, despair perhaps—or maybe a wound that just won’t heal?

Talcum powder, starch, baking soda for gargling. Hypnotics, Depon, amphetamines. Ponstan and paracetamol. Colorful pills, capsules, and Dramamine. Skulls and crescent moons—goodbye, world, or hello, joy? Everything’s at stake in this nocturnal game of truth and illusions.

A modern-day story of love and hate set in a neighborhood in central Athens, featuring heroic ghosts of people searching for the truth to escape their darkness.

The play “Don’t Dig in the Sand” is strictly for audiences 18 and older.

Authors’ Note:

“Don’t Dig in the Sand*” is a “chamber” piece for four instruments.

A polyphonic work without an orchestra, guided by four protagonists who take turns directing the voices of the others amid utter chaos.

The four figures, trapped in the corridors of a reality they themselves have carved out, seek a way out, asserting their place in the twilight world that contains them and that reflects, with realistic precision, the fleeting illusion of truth.

A co-production of ATHENS THEATERS and the PIRAEUS MUNICIPAL THEATER.
