As part of Stages Network’s Theatre Talksseries , actor and director Aimilios Cheilakis discusses the play “High Heels in the Marsh” by Akis Dimou, which opens on June 2 at the Lambeti Summer Theater—Taratsa, directed by Cheilakis in collaboration with Manolis Dounias. As part of a tour running concurrently with the Lambeti Terrace, the production will visit major cities throughout Greece.
He began by speaking about the respect and hard work of the show’s cast and crew in Akis Dimou’s remarkable play. He explained why both he and Athina Maximou chose to stay in Athens this year, in contrast to the extensive tours of previous years. At the same time, he expresses his joy that a childhood dream of his—to perform on a rooftop terrace on the outskirts of Pedion tou Areos—will come true. As for the play, he noted that it borders on satire because it addresses politics and the ills of political life among politicians. He spoke at length about his own role, as well as the other characters in the play. Regarding the tour schedule for the production in carefully selected cities, he said, “I am in favor of touring theater,” and explained his reasons.
A minister, his wife, and a leading figure in the Official Opposition. An eccentric, ambitious writer and a rising, equally ambitious journalist. A passionate (so they say) love affair that some cannot forget and others do not want to remember. A wedding anniversary that turns into a farce, a pile of dirty laundry that comes out into the open (but there’s no water to wash it), and the public life of a country that, for other is in danger and is burning . And all this while everyone is waiting, moment by moment, for the Prime Minister’s arrival at the reception.
A colorful pop comedy about the gray areas of politics (and beyond).
