at the Mikro Pallas Theater
COMPLETED
Following its huge success, the hilarious and deeply meaningful stand-up comedy show “Hougia or Death, ” by Kostas Toulakis and Ismini Villioti, directed and performed by Sofia Moutidou, is making a strong comeback and will be staged in October at one of Athens’ most central theaters, the Mikro Pallas.
Sofia Moutidou, in yet another electrifying solo performance, directs the show and takes the stage with her well-known explosive temperament to lay bare—with humor, self-deprecation, and tender ruthlessness—all those quirks that define us as Greeks.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
Set against the backdrop of everyday life in Greece and armed with biting humor, Sofia Moutidou explores—with boldness, tenderness, and self-deprecating humor—our habits, both big and small. The ones that annoy us, suit us, bring us together, and make us who we are.
Why in Greece:
It’s the little things, the everyday things, the “that’s how we always do it.”
It’s the oil under the sink.
These are the orphaned dolmades.
It’s the ferry ticket we’re booking at the last minute.
It’s customary to make the sign of the cross when a hearse passes by—even if we’re riding a motorcycle.
It is, after all, the Greek psyche in its most concentrated form.
And Sofia Moutidou deconstructs it—not to ridicule it, but to understand it. And to laugh along with it. And with us.
And with these very same values, you can rebuild the entire nation.
A MIRROR-LIKE PERFORMANCE
The performance doesn’t simply list habits. It interprets them, lays them bare, and—above all—sheds light on them in a way that helps us see them differently. Not as “flaws,” but as pieces of a collective identity that, if nothing else, unites us.
With sharp prose, hard-won truth, and a sense of bittersweet recognition, Moutidou calls on us to choose: “Hougia or Death?”
Because, as the saying goes:
“First the soul leaves—and then the body.”
