at the Apothiki Theater
*Final Performance: Sunday, April 13
Athens Theaters presents, for the first time in Greece, Marius von Mayenburg’s new play, “Nachtland” (Nachtland), which will premiere on October 18 at the Apothiki Theater.
Starring: Peggy Trikalioti, Katia Gkoulioni, Vangelio Andreadaki, Yannis Stefopoulos, Spyros Stamoulis.
The film is directed by Nikorestis Haniotakis.
The text was written by one of the most important contemporary artists (playwright, dramaturg, translator) and a long-standing collaborator of the Schaubühne in Berlin. His plays are staged in many different parts of the world to great acclaim, including in Greece (“The Ugly One,” “The Night, the Dog, and the Knife,” “The Witness”).
“Nachtland” is a scathing satire on modern relationships (romantic and familial), money, art, fascism, the rise of the new right, and the beliefs we have buried deep in our subconscious.
* The word “ Nachtland ” is a “made-up” German word, denoting the place where eternal darkness reigns.
The Story
Today, somewhere in Germany. Two siblings, Nicola and Philip, are arguing as they clean out their late father’s house. As soon as they find an old painting in the attic signed by the artist “A. Hitler” (!), things get complicated… Nikola wants to sell it, Philip wants to keep it, and his wife, Judith, wants to burn it. It won’t be long before the situation spirals out of control…
