In it, Shakespeare celebrates the power of friendship, the vigor of youth, the dreams that serve as a refuge from hardship, and the love and optimism that are the keys to our hope.
The case:
Shortly before the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta, Hermia refuses her father’s wish that she marry Demetrius, because her true love is Lysander. The two decide to elope into the forest that night. Her best friend, Helena, reveals the secret to Demetrius, and they follow them. Arriving in the forest are the King of the Fairies, Oberon; Queen Titania; the fairies; and the children’s beloved elf, the mischievous Puck. And so begins an incredibly comical romp.
And as if all that weren’t enough, a group of craftsmen who are preparing a special performance as a wedding gift are also wandering unsuspectingly through the forest.
Transformations, elves, a donkey, and Queen Titania weave the fabric of an enchanting and entertaining story.
