\n The groundbreaking play by Spanish playwright Ernesto Caballero,*The Painting*<\/strong>, will be presented for the first time in Greece at the Psyrri Theater, directed by Michalis Panadis, starting in October!<\/p>
\n This is a sharp, contemporary comedy<\/strong> set in the age of deepfakes, idols, political manipulation, and the omnipotence of influencers.<\/p>
\n Ioanna Pappa, Yuli Tsagkarakis, and <\/strong> Angelos Andriopoulos<\/strong> come together in an explosive theatrical collaboration, featuring a breakneck pace, subtle irony, and relentless self-deprecation.<\/p>
\n Somewhere between a political thriller and pure satire, *The Painting* humorously and incisively reflects a society crumbling behind its facade.<\/p>
\n The story:<\/strong><\/p>

\n We are in Spain\u2019s near future. The economic crisis has literally torn the European Union apart and brought the country to its knees.<\/strong> In an extreme move to \u201crescue\u201d the economy, the \u201cAdelante, Pueblo\u201d coalition government decides to liberalize the sale of cultural heritage, starting with Vel\u00e1zquez\u2019s iconic masterpiece, \u201cLas Meninas\u201d (\u201cThe Maids of Honor\u201d). <\/p>
\n But before the painting is handed over to the buyers, the government hires a humble nun\u2014known for her rare talent for copying works of art\u2014to create an identical, \u201cperfect\u201d replica!<\/p>
\n The Prado Museum is implementing its replacement plan. On the occasion of an \u201cExhibition of Copies,\u201d it is gradually transforming Sister Angela from a woman of God into the ultimate viral trend, an avant-garde media influencer, a pop nun next door who is idolized by the crowds. <\/p>
\n The government is now ready to officially announce the sale of the painting and its replacement with a copy. Citizens welcome the move, as they have come to adore the famous nun-copist and prefer her to Vel\u00e1zquez, at a time when social media personalities are valued more highly than history and culture, and replicas are trendier than the originals. <\/p>
\n But what happens when the celebrity nun begins to develop her own artistic voice and make changes to the painting?<\/p>
\n A frenzied journey of vanity, faith, and self-discovery begins, set against the backdrop of a society addicted to \u201clikes,\u201d manipulation, and fabricated idols.<\/p>
\n “What do you see when you look at a copy? Yourself<\/i>.”<\/p>
\n A performance full of intrigue, brushstrokes, colors, social media, faith in God, and lots of \u201cmonkeys.\u201d<\/p>
