Through his work, Miller condemns the violation of civil liberties and introduces the term “witch hunt” into the 20th century. He explains: “When the atmosphere is charged with tension, fear takes on a life of its own. The people of Salem saw themselves as the custodians of a higher truth. If the light of that truth were to be extinguished, they believed the end of the world would come. “When you have an ideological world that considers itself so pure, it’s natural to veer toward extremes.”

In 1953, Miller staged the play *The Crucible* on Broadway, winning a Tony Award. His aim was to denounce the anti-communist hysteria that prevailed in the U.S. during the McCarthy era and led to the physical and moral destruction of ordinary citizens, idealists, and representatives of the intellectual community.
The text refers to a true story: the witch trials that took place in the village of Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692. This incident led to the conviction and execution of 20 residents on charges of witchcraft.
The main character, John Proctor, becomes a suspect in a world of dogmatists as a result of a personal mistake—an act of marital infidelity.

Case:

In 1692 in Salem, Abigail falls madly in love with a married man older than her, John Proctor. He, however, rejects her and chooses to remain with his wife. So, she and other young women from his village cast a spell to bring him back. The residents of Salem discover them, and the women face the risk of being put to death as witches. Abigail accuses her lover’s wife of instigating the supernatural acts, leading to a trial with devastating consequences for everyone.

at the Dimitris Horn Theater The Mythodia theater company, in collaboration with Athenian Theaters and People Entertainment Group, will present the much-discussed production “The Crucible” (The Crucible) by Arthur Miller,…

[463,468
post-45144","cpt_portfolio","type-cpt_portfolio","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","cpt_portfolio_group-2021-2022","cpt_portfolio_group-mikro-pallas-theater
["GET
